In early 2020, Chicago based Brazilian ambient and drone musician wøunds approached Texas noise and experimental extraordinaire Princess Haultaine III to collaborate on new music driven by the uncertainty of the months ahead. wøunds, who traditionally makes serene music, believed using Princess Haultaine’s cathartic and distorted sonic explorations would add texture and depth to his sound. The idea of collaborating on a full length record quickly materialized.
Princess Haultaine III was interested in pushing boundaries of sound processing and complex composition. Using a collection of sounds wøunds recorded with his modular synthesizer through an endless chain of pedals and effects, Princess Haultaine created the title track “There’s No Truth”. A 30-minute epic that naturally evolves from synthesizer drone to objects clattering to the apex of the track, invoking chaotic drums, acoustic guitar through a chain of pedals and piano improvisation.
wøunds’ half of the record is made of shorter arrangements created by processing, layering and filtering Princess Haultaine’s original raw recordings beyond recognition. In these five tracks, wøunds builds a dark but blissful world.
While both artists took the original sources to create their own music for the project, it is clear throughout the album that one artist influenced the other on the final product.
